Guerrilla Tools PDF Print E-mail

by Jonathan R. Aspatore

The wave of new technology products hitting the shelves makes for an exciting and somewhat confusing situation for guerrillas. There are so many new tools to enhance your productivity, yet only a handful of these are easy enough for every level technology user. The ones that can really assist guerrillas the most are the tools that allow us to be more organized and maximize our time.

Although the idea of putting your life into an electronic organizer may be a bit scary to some, there is now a product that you can rely on and will increase your organization and efficiency. The Palm Pilot has become one of the most successful Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) ever because of its ability to combine technology with an easy to use interface.

The Palm Pilot comes equipped with everything you need to get organized including a date book, address book, memo pad, to do list, and calculator. Each area is clearly broken out with special features such as an alarm, security options, and other customization tools that allow guerrillas to maximize productivity in both their business and personal lives.

Perhaps one of the most reassuring aspects of the Palm Pilot is the HotSync feature, which allows you to back up your data to your computer. Therefore, if you ever lose your Palm Pilot you can buy another and put all of your data back on it. Anyone who has ever lost his or her organizer realizes this is a small price to pay to regain all of your information.

The Palm Pilot has been around for a couple of years now, with the latest edition the Palm VII even having remote Internet access. However, the earliest versions of the Palm, the Palm Personal and Professional editions, are still available for under $200 and are more than adequate for even the most sophisticated technology user. The upgraded version, the Palm III, allows you to beam information, such as notes or business card information, to another individual with a Palm III or higher. Although this is a useful feature, the Palm Pilot Personal and Professional editions are much less expensive and are relatively the same unit, except for the infrared beaming capability and less memory.

There are now hundreds of areas online that have created their own palm pilot applications, utilities, and games that you can download for free and add to your Palm Pilot. If you are considering adding numerous of these applications to your Palm Pilot, it is a good idea to go with a version above the Palm Personal and Professional so you can take advantage of the increased memory feature.

Although HP, Casio, and Philips have came up with their own PDA’s, the differences are not functionally superior and they are still a ways behind in terms of general acceptance of their products. Palm Pilot has set the standard in the PDA market and created multiple versions of its units for different level technology users in addition to an interface that it easy to use by all.

Whether you use the Palm Pilot to store all of your information, jot down notes, or simply as a way to stay on top of things away from the office, this sleek and easy to use unit is a great tool for guerrillas on the go.
